What is the BEST thermometer there is?
OK well i was just wondering i know how crap the strip thermometers are and how great the digital ones are but what about those exo Terra dial ones ? I just spotted one online they are alot cheaper and it says they are 100% accurate.Anyone have any experience with these?
Re: What is the BEST thermometer there is?
* Edit I did use the exo terra digital ones in my iguana cage one on the cool side and one on the hot, I switched to the Indoor/outdoor ones they seemd to give a better reading
Walmart/Lowes/Home Depot any store like that just get an indoor/outdoor thermometer w/ remote probe. They cost abut $12-$16 and give the most accurate readings in my experience.

Best thermometer? Probably this one. ;)
But even that one isn't 100% accurate, so I'd steer away from a spring thermometer that claims it is. The spring ones are a step above the strip ones, but not as good as the Accurites. A mercury or alcohol thermometer is probably more accurate than a cheap digital one for the same cost, but they're not very practical in a reptile cage.

I Use racks so each tub does not get a designated Thermometer. I use this on a regular basis http://us.fluke.com/usen/products/Fluke+561.htm
And this for Humidity http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...&sName=&mv=cmp
I also have a couple cheap digitals I use here and their, but they are only for reference as they have proven to be way off time and time again.

Hi Chuck,
Those dial ones might be good for whipping across the room to try and ding the clerk that sold you them but that's about the only use I would ever put one to.
You can get a good digital for £10 and a good in/out/hygro for about £15 on ebay or in some online shops.
Anything claiming to be 100% accurate generally doesn't understand one of those terms.
Theres also the fact that only the probe ones allow you to actually check the temperatures inside the hides where the snake is actually going to be.
Spend the extra dough and stay away from the dials unless you want to know the wrong temps half way up the tank wall. :gj:
