heres a easy way, get 1.0 het pied male, 0.3 females. Raise them up, Breed them, save back all the ph females. raise them, breed them back to the original het pied, or bring in some new blood because het pied males are cheap! Raise the eggs, and if everything gos right in 4- 6 years you will have pieds!!

    there are several ways:

pied x pied: 100% offspring will be pied
pied x het pied: 50% Piebald, 50% Het Piebald
het pied x het peid: 25% Piebald, 50% Het Piebald, 25% Wild Type
het peid x ph peid: and if the ph proves out then it will be considered het pied and you will get the same results as het x het

My opinion would be that you start with a pair of het pied's. If you start with babies it will take you 2.5+ years to raise you female to breeding size. So you have the possibility of having pied's in about 3+ years. I say possibility only because even with proven hets, it is not a guarantee that you will get a visual morph, you have a 25% chance, per egg, of getting a visual morph.

I also want to have pied's in my collection. I have started with hets, although I did purchase proven adults instead of babies.

    Hope this helps.

yeah, i think ill get a baby het pied male since they are cheap, and by the time hes old enough to breed i could probably get a female adult het pied cheap. at least i will have a pet for now and a project for later.

Yaa... or get poss het females, as they are cheaper than 100% het females. Since females take longer to mature than males, you might want to go the route of getting a female now.. and look for a male in a year or so. Then both would be mature at the same time for breeding. In theory.

I would do that backwards. A breedable female may be more expensive than a breedable male. Also males are more available than females as breeders normally keep females.

but if i get ph , i may have nothing but a normal right? that would be bad after waiting 2.5 years to breed them to find out they are not hets lol

very true.. but you can proabably get 2-3 ph females from the same clutch if possible for the price of one het

And even with het to het, there is no gurantee that you will get any pieds.. as mentioned before each egg would only have a 25% chance beign pied.. thats whats makes this even more fun :)
