    Just an observation
Just kinda wondering, or pondering. When we got our redtail a week ago, we took our 3 foot BP out of the 55g and put him into a 20. At first i thought it might be TOO small, but considering the suggestions to use a 32q tub, im thinking he'll be ok. Anywho, I have noticed him coming out of the hides ALOT more at night thatn he used to,. So, is the explorations a good sign ?? Considering he never left the hides unless removed or for eating ?? Im pretty suure it is, i am just looking for some back up here :) Thanks guys

He is exibiting normal behavior to leave his hide at night. If he never left his hide in the larger enclosure, it is probably because he didn't feel secure enough.

Its definitely because he better suited in the smaller tank, and feels more secure. like the whole domain is HIS domain. Don't worry, both snakes will be happier :D. Mind if I ask if it's a normal 20gallon, or a 20 gallon long?

My 3' bp is also in a 20L and was quite happy in it...until I switched out her hides! Holy cow did she have a fit! So, maybe it's just the switch. I'm sure she will settle down just like mine did.

Yeah, my girl just recently got up to 3' and is still happy in her 20long tank. :)

And when I changed her hides she didn't settle for days! It's not just your snake. ;)

I'm glad to hear that I wasn't in the boat by myself! She was so active that I was freaking out! It wasn't until I covered her tank all the way around with a towel that she settled down. And even then it took a little while before she went back in her hide. I just hope she doesn't do it again when I switch out her hides for larger ones. Unfortunately I don't have a choice because she can't even get into the once she has now...part of her hangs out quite a bit and I can't imagine her feeling comfortable. But, this time I have the same type of hide...just larger.

OP...try covering all 4 sides with something until he/she calms down. Maybe that will do the trick. It worked for mine.
