Do your herps sense eachother's presence?
I recently got an addition to my quite small collection and noticed odd behavior from my milksnake. She had just shed two days ago and let out quite a dump in her cage that I cleaned out, I had her out and was letting her crawl around last night and she dropped a massive load on the coffee table. Not 30 minutes later I notice that my red tailed boa is crawling around and I look in there to see the hygrometer saying "HI" and a puddle and a huge turd and a puddle of urine in the cage...

Now has anyone else experienced anything like this? is this territory marking behavior or just a coincidence?

I also have noticed my milk snake has been a lot more flighty lately, usually she never musks or leaps from my hands, she's acting like she did when I first got her.

What does everyone think about this nonsense?

for a while we had 2 bps in the same tank (i know i know we were young and stupid) when we seperated them, their tanks were (and still are) next to eachother. they would come out at night and sit nose to nose and stare at each other (longingly?) through the glass. it was adorable. they dont do it anymore. but for a while they did it every night.

i know that we humans project human emotions to our snakes when really they dont care one way or another, but when they were first seperated they looked all over for one another and did the nose to nose thing for quite sometime. it was like i had seperated a man and his wife:date: or something. eventually they will be man and wife but only during breeding season.

They are living creatures with highly developed senses specific to their species - of course they sense each other, likely far better than we would sense one of them slithering by.

Whether they much care one way or another is a whole different question. I would assume that they instinctively categorize the other snake as "can you eat me? can I eat you? do you present any threat to me? are you a potential mate?". Other than that I doubt they do much worrying about each other.

I don't think it's anything but a hard to believe coincidence. In fact one time I saw both of my snakes out at the same time and they were both "reflection chasing" the usual way. Their cages aren't next to eachother though; They're on shelves and Charon is on the top while Nephthys is on the bottom.
