something is not right with my bp
heres the back story:
when ever i pick up my one female, alabama, she seems to prolapse a little. it always goes back in, but when ever she gets the least bit stressed out she pops her insides out. it seems a little swollen normally like it doesnt want to close all the way. she hasnt pooped in a while though so it could be that. also since ive noticed it, she hasnt wanted to eat. all of her activities seem normal. shes hiding and drinking and cruising around at night. she pokes her head out of her hide occasionally to check things out. temperature and humidity are good she sheds just fine. im going to make an appointment tomorrow with the vet for her(they arent open on sunday).
i guess what im asking is do any of you have any idea what could be causing this? is she in pain do you think? and what can i do to help her out till she can get in to see the vet?
thanks a bunch
Re: something is not right with my bp
Hmm i've never encountered this in a snake before but maybe if it continues take her to the vets.
Re: something is not right with my bp
Definitely have your vet do a fecal & check for the presence of any type of internal parasite/worms/protozoa, as they can cause a swollen vent, as well as reduced appetite.
Re: something is not right with my bp
so i made an appointment at the vet. i figured i have 2 new bp's and i got them the same day from the same place in the same tank so i have an appt for both just in case.
it was funny though the receptionist asked me if they were spayed...
can you spay a snake?
Re: something is not right with my bp
I'm sure you could.. Somehow.
Never encountered a spayed snake, however.

I'm sure any animal can be neutered, but I'm not sure why someone would do it to a snake. It's not as if they can jump over the fence to your neighbor's yard and mate with their pet snake.

What if the snake hasn't pooped recently? Is there anything else the vet can check?

It's really surprising that so many people think you need poop to do a fecal sample. I've seen it on almost every topic explained that you don't about going to the vet.
They just take a swab from their cloaca to get the sample.
