questions about Hog Island boa

I have recently become snake obsessed. We've only had our ball python for a couple of weeks and I seem to spend every spare moment researching all kinds of snakes. Took my son to a Repticon(?) show last weekend and spent some time talking with a guy who was selling baby Hog Island Boas. They were so much fun to handle! They just don't have the same personality as Balls, do they? Curious what others would say comparing balls to boas... He was asking 75 dollars- Good price or too god to be true? How could one tell if they were truly getting a hog and not some red tail hybrid? No- I'm not buying another snake.....yet....just curious.

Well as far as personality goes, they are completey different IMO. Boas show so much curiosity and "playfulness", while balls are more timid and lethargic.

As to the 75 dollars thats pretty cheap, so be careful. Maybe even do a check on Fauna to see if the breeder pops up.

Hog X's are extremely popular right now (dont know why) and some look like pure hogs, some look like normal BCI's.

As far as personality goes, hogs have 10x the personality of ball pythons. They are curious and they explore, tolerate handling much better and for far longer, and are not shy. As far as that price goes, it may be better to do a little research online first to see who you are buying from and make sure you are getting a fairly pure boa and from someone with a good reputation. Jimi has a recent thread of some pure hogs. Jamie and I have a pure Sears line hog and one that probably has some red-tail influence. If you do some research on pure hogs and get to know what they look like, it's easier to notice a really good looking animal from a subpar one. Doing a five-minute search on Fauna well give you a feel for whether a person has a decent reputation in the community, as well as just asking around in our inquiry forum. They are fantastic snakes!

Jaxson is my hog island/columbian cross, hes an amazing snake. He was a bit grumpy and i swore he was going to be the first snake to ever bite me... turned out being my baby mojave male lol.. You learn the snakes temperament and leave them alone when they are having "one of those days" Hes much more enjoyable to handle
