    burned snake
I'm taking my brother's snake, which is burned, to the vet on monday. What are some things that need to be done in the meantime to help it's recovery? thanks :(

How badly burned is it? If it is a bad burn, you shouldn't wait until Monday.

Scales coming off definitely sounds pretty bad. In most cases, I'd say to make sure you go to a vet that knows snakes. However, with a bad burn, waiting until Monday doesn't sound like a good idea. Most areas, unless you are really out on the country, will have some sort of emergency vet around that is open 24 hrs, and at least in my experience, those will see any type of animal. You might try looking it up online or in your phonebook. If you find one, maybe they can at least give you advice over the phone and help you first of all figure out how much of an emergency this is, and second of all help you find a vet who at least knows enough about reptiles to see an emergency case who is open on Saturday.

    What happened to him?

Get him to the vet ASAP, call vets all around and ask for advice and about other nearby vets. :]

Any petsmarts in your area? Most have Bainfield animal clinics and I believe those are open all day Sat and Sunday. Cost wise they are a lot better than a 24 hour emergency clinic.

Burned again or same deal? Has the CHU been removed from the enclosure yet....?

    Maybe a more suitable enclosure?

    Homework?

Until you see a vet make sure to replace the substrate by clean dry paper towel, try to clean up the damaged area with some betadine and apply some triple anti-biotic ointment. Keep the area clean and dry and limit your handling as much as you can (only if necessary)

Not sure how this happen but if it is due to your UTH make sure it is now controlled by a thermostat, if it is due to another device make sure to remove it IMMEDIATELY.

Yes, this is from the same thing...we put him in a temporary tank with paper towels. The tank is too small for him but it will work for a temporary fix...better have him cramped than burned worse :(
