BCI baby weight
I was wondering if anyone has a BCI growth chart. I am trying to figure out the correct weight vs. length/age for my female. She was born 11/07 and weighed in at ~450g. I am not too sure on her length yet, ~2.5ft. Is this too big, too thin? I don't notice any fat folds or anything or her ribs, she seems kinda plump.
Thanks.

Re: BCI baby weight
I don't have a growth chart, but based on when the snake was born I'd say the weight was right on target :gj:

Thanks. I'm kinda of paranoid, I hear these horror stories of peope losing their babies from over/under feeding. So just making sure. :D

No problem. I have a 600 and something gram Bci who was born the beginning of Sept 2007 and is what I based my opinion of your Bci on :D

Re: BCI baby weight
I've never weighed a single boa of mine. I always go by their looks. If they look like they are at a healthy weight, they are good in my book. I like nice muscle tone and strong necks, that makes for healthy boas.

So then Jimi, if you don't go by weight, when do you know to up their prey size? This is being the trickiest thing for me...

Im not Jimi, but I up prey size, when it looks to small. I have never weighed any food, not for my boas, balls, or anything.

I do weigh my snakes, but I don't go by weight for food. I stick to the thickness rule and as he/she gets bigger, I increase size. :]

I know some interesting documents written bt Mr. Bert Verveen (he's dutch.)
He has written several documents and did several researches on how boas should eat and grow, he concluded that the less the boa eats and the more time he gets between meals the less energie is lost in digesting the prey. Really interesting to read about these documents, they are written in dutch and englisch...
Here some links and the link to his site;

on this pages several PDF documents can be found, this guy isn't talking rubbisch, he shurely knows what he does...

I myself rather go for the looks with a slow grow ratio and many muscles, they have to feel strong en the skin does not belong to be loose on the snake, too fat is not ok alltough many breeders want there woman ready in 3 year, this isn't always the best for the snake... I rather choose for the best !
