Clutch #4 Black Pastel- GRAPHIC!!!!
Hello all,
Well I dont really get to post much on here. I am super busy between work and my animals and as you all know just the snakes are a full time job. Well Ball Clutch 4 for the year was a black pastel male to a normal female. At day 55 of a very normal 5 egg clutch one pipped so I cut the rest. Its been 6 days and all but one were out of the egg. They were all out 3 days ago and I understand sometimes there are slow ones so I left the last one alone until today.
I looked in the egg and saw what you see below. A little more examination and I found the the yolk was disconnected for the baby and there was obvious deformity. This one appears to be a black pastel but I am beside myself. She (dont know if its male or female but its a she until proven otherwise) has some major problems.
After I composed myself (it's not a pretty picture when a grown man cries) I decided to see the extent of her problems and look to all of you to enlist any help I could get. She appears to be blind in one eye and her head is deformed. The real problem is it also looks as if her spine is kinked at her neck. She also looks as if she is possibly prolapsed. While she was lying there she kept spinning like she was trying to right herself but couldnt. The yolk appeared to be all dried up and attached to the side of the egg.
My question is, any ideas? I would love to raise her up if its possible but I know it is a long shot. My main concern is the kink. Does anyone have any experience with this and is it possible? Here are some pictures of her and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Clutch #4 Black Pastel- GRAPHIC!!!!
unfortunately there is no way that animal could ever eat or live normally in any way. She doesn't even look alive in the pictures... Things like that happen from time to time and it is completely outside of anyones control.
Sorry for your loss!

Thanks for the help.
I am going to wait until tomorrow until I do anything but I kinda figured it was a major problem with the neck.
Thanks again.
Re: Clutch #4 Black Pastel- GRAPHIC!!!!
I'm terribly sorry for your loss..
I really think it's very unlikely that she would be capable of eating or surviving a pain-free life..
Unfortunately theres only a few options if she is unable to eat.. she could be in terrible pain too.
Re: Clutch #4 Black Pastel- GRAPHIC!!!!
Sorry about that one! Keep your chin up, you've done what you could!
Re: Clutch #4 Black Pastel- GRAPHIC!!!!
Please for the sake of the animal put it in the freezer. I know this is not what you want to hear. It clearly has no chance of living and is not comfortable if it keeps trying to right itself. I'm sorry for your loss but put the animal first. Some things we just can't fix.

Re: Clutch #4 Black Pastel- GRAPHIC!!!!
Awww, that's is very sad. I am very sorry that you have to deal with this situation, but deformities happen and responsible keepers need to assess each situation and deal with each situation in a compassionate and respectful manner.
Death is sometimes the most compassionate gift we can give to another.
I'm so sorry :tears:
