    prescenting?
when most people here talk about feeding their BP they mention prescenting the room i was just wondering how exactly do you do that? i know when i feed my BP i feed them in the tub that i keep my breeder rats in i move the rats out to a rack unit and feed the BP in the tub and once finished i put the rats back would that be a form of prescenting?

Yes, that is a form of prescenting.

For someone with a larger collection, just leaving the feeder animals in the same room for an amount of time for the smell to permeate is also a form of prescenting, and I believe more common.

Since I feed rats and mice, PK and FT, I select the mice that will be fed off that night and put them in plastic critter keepers, which I then place on top of the tanks. That way, the smell and sight are attractants. :) Have to do it this way with my young normal female BP or she doesn't even come out of her hide.

Since my ratters are both good eaters, though I'm trying to get my pickier female onto FT right now, I don't have to rat scent with them. They just take the food when it's offered. Once I have finally converted most of the snakes to rats, I'll start prescenting with rat. :)

:gj:I do pretty much what heather does but i dont even have half the collection she does, i put the rats in a box right outside there rack, and i open the tubs just alittle bit so fresh rat air can get in there, leave it for about a hour and come back and they are all at the front of there tubs ready to eat. :gj:

Yesterday was the first time I offered my snake food (live adult mouse). I prescented by putting the cardboard box that the mouse came in inside the enclosure. She immediately came out of her hide to check it out and showed interest. I left it in there for about 30 minutes before I released the mouse into her enclosure.

Here's an article that you might find useful.

I put the prey in a plastic container (with holes in it) and put the container on top of the snakes enclosure. Within a few seconds they are "hunting". You will know right away when you have done it right. The only problem I have is getting my hand out of the way in time!!!

:) Use tongs, silly! Feeding by hand, unless we're talking about dropping in FT or PK, is just asking for tags.

Yeah good point Argentra. Either they are getting faster or I'm getting slower. Joined the tag club already, maybe it's time for tongs.
