What's up with this mouse? Is this even edible?
I bought this tonight from the store where I hate buying feeders (but have no choice), and once again I was disappointed. I didn't notice his funky foot before I left, but I did notice the eyes. I thought it might just be ice crystals?

Either way it's gross. Should I feed it?

But it's thawed now. I don't know if they'll take it back. T_T

I just left it on the table not thinking, and when I came back to it to get it ready to feed I realized that whatever is wrong with the eyes isn't ice crystals, and that the leg was gross.

Go up in their face and show them how terrible that is!

I agree. Thawed or not, that is ick. Take it back and show it to them first hand. At least get a PK for it...

The eyes look fine...but the abdominal, John Hurt - Alien emergence thing is a little gross.

When deciding if a feeder looks good, look at whatever is in question and imagine is on a piece of chicken or steak you're about to eat. Would you eat it? If so, nom away. If not, pitch it/get a refund-replacement.

I've got a rat in the freezer that I need to pitch; got some scabby wound on his head...and yeah, I wouldn't eat that, so I'm not gonna make any of my snakes eat it either.

I myself had a problem with some F/T that I purchased at a pet store. One of them almost looked deformed and the other was half the size as the mice in the package. Although I had thawed out the deformed one I still took it back and demanded a refund. I took the whole package in and got a new one.

I wouldn't feed my children moldy food, I certainly won't feed my snake a funky looking mouse. Hopefully, the place you purchased them will support that idea and give you a refund. Good Luck!!!

Took it back today and got a refund on it. I have GOT to start getting my feeders somewhere else. Maybe someone at Daytona will be willing to work with me on smaller packages since I don't need 50 at a time.

Maybe check and see if there's a herp club or anything in your area and you could split an order with someone if you don't want to store a bigger frozen order yourself. Also you can even advertise here to see if there's any other BPNetters who lives in your area that might want to go in on a frozen order so you can get bulk discounts (usually 100 prey items gets you a reduced rate per item).

As far as that mouse, I'm glad you insisted on a refund. While it might not have hurt your snake, really for the cost of one mouse I wouldn't chance it. I figure it this way, it's all the nutrition your snake is getting that week so why not make sure that nutrition is in the form of a top quality prey item. We humans eat various food items so if one isn't the best (like a run to some nasty burger joint like White Castle) we can make up for it in our other food that week. These animals have one shot at a decent meal and that mouse surely didn't qualify as decent to my way of thinking.
