Help!!!! Red Spots Under Head!!!!!!!!!!
Hi, I just got done holding my brother's ball python and noticed it has red spots under it's head and about an inch down it's 'neck.' I know that this is not normal and am very worried about it!
What could this be from? Any ideas? Please help, thank you!
Also, the ceramic heat emmiter just got placed in the cage because it was not making it hot enough - the cage is very tall. The snake sometimes climbs up to it, only to try and get out - there used to be hole. When it is up there, it is moving fast and trying to get off of the heat and quickly gets off of it...could this be the cause of the red spots? (also her whole belly is kind of pink - not because she is shedding, she just got done.) Will she learn not to climb on the heat emmiter? Or does it need to be taken out and an alternate method of heating used to get proper temp? Thanks!

It needs to be covered to where the snake cant touch it, or taken out. It sounds like it did get burned. Good luck!

How would you cover the heat emitter?
The tank, i guess, has a wooden bottom, so a UTH probably wouldn't heat it through correctly...

hmmm. You can make a cage for it with hardware cloth.

I would be inclined to purchase a cage suitable for a ball python. They really do well with 12" of height and need no more than that given that they are terrestrial snakes.
I have these cages: http://www.reptilebasics.com/2x3-Cag...h-p-16286.html with flex watt and a thermostat to control the flex watt.
Another way to keep ball pythons is in a tub/rack.
