Saw the retic that was in the washing machine
Hey, I got to go to the wildlife park yesterday in Gray, Maine and they happen to have the reticulated python there that the woman found in her washing machine that was on the news a few weeks ago. I wanted to see how big, how healthy, etc. He really did not look all that big. I was a little worried about his enclosure. Most of it was in direct sunlight (at the time of day we were there) and there was a heater in there that he ws coiled around, but it was not on. I hope that they have someone advising them on snake care.

The snake looked ok. He looks sort of lumpy under his skin. Maybe he is underweight?

Regardless, I got a couple of pictures. I thought he was pretty cute. :)

I think they will do their best. I am sort of hoping there is someone behind the scenes who knows a little bit about caring for snakes. It's a great Wildlife park. They take in orphaned wildlife and rehab them plus have wildlife exhibits open to the public. Their normal animals are bobcats, deer, etc. MAINE wildlife. Not pythons. ;)

There are news reports and videos of the daring rescue there. :D

The fact there is a heater in with it should have alarm bells ringing.... I see a fan beside it, maybe that's the heater. In any case it shouldn't be in there period!

Nor should it be exposed to direct sunlight.... doesn't sound like the people caring for it have a clue. I hope someone can drop by and offer some friendly advice!

I did email them and sent along a caresheet. I was very polite. I think they DON'T know how to care for it but I didn't want to be mean about it. I just wish they would send the snake to someone who CAN care for it.
