    i acquired a western hognose on sat.i've fed it a pinkie with no problems.i was just wondering will my snake be ok to have crickets because i read in a couple of books saying hognose snakes take insects?

    I would not feed insects to your hogs, I have not heard of any reliable reports that hognoses have been OBSERVED to eat insects. There are a few snakes that will take insects. However many species that some books CLAIM will take insects base their claims on the stomach analysis of the species in question. They don't take into consideration that the snakes REAL prey is the one that actually ate the insects. (ie: Frogs or lizards will eat insects... The snake then eats the frog or the lizard..... Insect parts are then found in the stomach of the snake......)

    Nope, WHSs are real rodent-eating snakes. If yours is capable of eating mice, feed it mice. If you have 2 food options, go for the healthlier one.
