Which enclosure looks best for my BP?
This is my ball python's current enclosure:

It's normally filled with aspen, but I was getting ready to start cleaning / disinfecting during the pic. So far the snake has shown no signs of stress that I can tell. He drinks regularly, hides all the time and only cruises on feeding days. Never missed a meal and already takes FT mice. He's about 162 grams and that tub was a 28qt sterilite with medium sized RBI hides.

Today though I decided to try switching to this tub:

Which one is best? I can keep either of them with a nice temp gradient of 90 warm, 80 cool. Humidity is also 50-60% in either tub.

I just thought it might be more ideal to be in a smaller tub. Also easier to clean ;) so I thought I'd give it a shot.

Was this a good move or should I switch it back the bigger one?

Note: even though that first one is a big tub, the hides do sorta break the size down more. With Aspen in there, you really won't find much open space.

Also, the tub is kept in a completely dark room all the time with no human traffic.

    Hi,

If he's eating every time it's offered then to be honest I wouldn't mess with it. :)

Is there a pressing reason you feel you should switch things around?

No not really. I'm just bored and like to tweak things. :D

Yes but your snake probably does not ;), changing thing around too much will only stress your BP and you want to avoid that.

The first tub is better, log hides such as the one in the second pic make poor hides, not providing enough security.

Log isn't a hide, but as a hard surface for shedding. I have a cardboard hide that fits her perfectly which isn't pictured. I also considered having no hide at all since it's such a small enclosure in such a dark room with no light, ever.

I agree, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' :) Go ahead and leave them in the larger one. I have a BP here that hates smaller enclosures and has been in a 20long since she was 2 months old.

Oh, and Dr.Del that was the COOLEST little thing!! I'm a puzzle nut as it is...

Yeah that thing does look cool but boy is it expensive for a toy like that.

I left my guy in the small tub overnight and he left me two suprises this morning. A full, perfect shed and 20grams of pee/poop. He just ate again a few moments ago, so I'm thinking the stress from the change wasn't a big deal. I'm thinking I might keep the small one for a few weeks at least and then go back up to the big one. It's just easier to clean and the top is easier to secure.
