Yeah, I have a hypo girl who has been a real challenge to get to eat. Becky (satanicintention) suggested feeding live mice and ever since she has been a bang-on once a week eater :D

I am hoping to switch her over to f/t rats but it will be a while; I want to be certain that she has gotten a fierce feeding response and a lot of weight on her ;)

I'll tell some of my 2000g+ girls that mice just aren't doing it for them ;)

Just feed her what she wants to eat, who cares as long as she's eating and gaining weight.

Gram for gram, mice and rats are the same thing and will(in my limited 4 years of experience) provide the same opportunity for growth. It also depends on the snake and how fast he/she is predetermined to grow. 2-25g mice are the same as a 50g rat. My adult girls (1500g+) get 3-4 mice every 7-10 days. Girls under that get 2-3, adult males get 2(maybe a third if they are breeding and need the extra oomph). Babies get 1-2 depending on their size.

So believe me, she'll do JUST fine on mice if that's what she wants to eat :D

I can tell you that trying to switch from live mice to F/T was nearly impossible for me. I tried tough love for 6 weeks maybe longer and then I just gave in. She eats 2-4 mice per sitting and is gaining weight great now. She's my only live eater but its an inconvinience I'm happy to deal as long as she's healthy and growing.

Lesser has been on mice most of his life and has grow great. Im not saying mice are not the same or bad in any way but I JUST got rid of my mouse colony about a month ago:weirdface Thought I was away from them for a while! weekly petstore visits it is to pick up 2 or three mice.
