    Lighting Question
So i got my bp set-up and at night i can't see him at all because its so dark. So i have read on here that normal heat lamps are painful for snakes because they are so bright. So i went out and bought a ZooMed Blue Reptile Bulb. i remember that this was a good alternative because it doesn't hurt the snakes eyes as much. Am i right or is there a better alternative.

Are you doing it only for lights sake, or for heat as well?

    Re: Lighting Question
I'm new to owning snakes, just 1-2 years. But BP's do not need light, its better just to use normal around the house lighting, you dont need any special heat lights, or basking, ONLY if thats your only means of tank heating which I hope it isnt, snakes need belly heat to help with alot of things, such as digestion of there food, they will stay in there hides most of the day, and at night, when the lights are off, they will become more active. I would just use another means of heating, like UTH's, and heat tape depending on your setup and forget about the light.

    Re: Lighting Question
i have two uth's. one on each end with a ten degree heat gradient starting at 81.5 degrees. the ambient temp is 78-84 degree's with the humdity pretty much at 48% all day long. i just want some sort of light in the tank for an hour or two each day from like ten to midnight, so with the few hours a day i am home i can see him and the vivarium.
    thanks

I use a 40 watt ceiling fan bulb on my boas tank, just turn it on for a bit, because my heating is perfect without heat lamps. Just something I do, but to each there own

For night viewing, use a moonlight bulb of about 25 watts in a lamp suspended above the tank so it doesn't affect humidity or temps too much. Have it on a timer so it goes off when you go to bed.

Blue bulbs will not disturb the snake at all, as long as you don't use a 75watt or something like that :)
