so i proved out a female(pics)
so i bought this normal female a few years back because shes one beautiful girl and i thought it may help the appearance of the hatchlings. so her first clutch hatched on the 13th and some of her babies are looking very similar to her.
so heres the momma

she has a nice reduced pattern and i guess shes banded and also has two yellow spots above her heat pits, one on each side of her face. i call them "foglights" because i think i have seen a similar trait described this way before.
some babies display these characteristics more than others and some dont. im guessing it could be a dom or codom gene and the ones that dont display it at all just dont have the gene.
so i only quickly snapped a few shots of some of the hatchlings while i was replacing paper towel and filling water bowls. please dont mind the bad quality of the pictures.
heres the first one

it doesnt seem to be anything too special but it is noticeable and inheritable.
Re: so i proved out a female(pics)
she was bred to a pastel male who isnt the nicest but i think that if she was bred to a nicer reduced pattern male then the babies may display the characteristic more prominently. what do you guys think? im going to sell them as normals anyways but its cool to know that the mother's "nice normal" pattern is inheritable genetically.

i think they look beautiful!
Re: so i proved out a female(pics)
I have a good number of normal bps and morphs that have "foglights," it appears to be a random pattern with no genetic link at all that just seems to pop up here and there....
Just a cool looking appearance to me. :)
Re: so i proved out a female(pics)
The real test will be breeding one of her boys back to her. While she is definately a reduced the offspring are not as reduced as her. It could be a recessive reduced pattern. If you lived closer we could try her with our co-dom reduced male. He was proven out by Ian G. and is also genetic dark morph. We got him late and had him breed even later in the season, so we are still waiting to see if the girl gives us any eggs. If she does we are hoping for some female reduced hold backs to breed back to dad and keep around just to get the reduced worked into lots of other genes.

i would breed a male reduced back to her next year!!
Re: so i proved out a female(pics)
i can see how it could be a random thing but the the babies also show similar banding as the mother. i mean its definitely not as nice but i think thats because of the male she was bred to. i have seen other bps with foglights and no banding and your probably right that its a random occurrence. i guess i have to breed the babies and see if it occurs in their clutches. i know its nothing special and its not like i proved out a white snake with purple stripes and gold eyes but from this one clutch it does seem to be inheritable. i think the patterns can be pretty nice and even if it is a random occurence than maybe i can selectively breed her to "nicer" looking males and maybe that way i can get nicer babies.

ya thats what i was thinking so i may just have to keep the little banded pastel(fourth pic) because he shows some nice banding and great foglights. it would be cool to try her with your codom male next year. too bad we're so far but good luck getting some eggs and reduced babies!
