Share your "Water-Dish removal ways"
As much as I enjoythe whole balancing trapeze act with a dish full of water, lifting it out of the tank evenly without spilling can become a task sometimes. Causing humidity problems...minor but there must be an easier trick to it.
I was thinking of using a brick sponge to set IN the dish to absorb some then lifting it out of the tank.
Any other suggestions? A syphone? (spelling)
Since i am guessing alot of us change the water in dishes everyday.
Thank you!,
hmm...i dont think i will have to post a pic of the water dish but hey, i just might! lol
Re: Share your "Water-Dish removal ways"
...don't fill it so full...:gj:
...for as often the water SHOULD be changed...there's no reason for filling a waterbowl near full...but then again...you could be using a tiny dish :P
Re: Share your "Water-Dish removal ways"
Maybe just don't fill the water bowl all the way to the top? Or am I missing something?

Re: Share your "Water-Dish removal ways"
Whood a thunk it??? 1/2 to 3/4 full bowl means no spills.
Re: Share your "Water-Dish removal ways"
:) I also only fill the bowl maybe 3/4 full at most. This also helps prevent the snake from 'splashing' any out.
When changing water, it's usually down low so there's no spilling as I take them out. I dump and rinse in hot water (they get totally cleaned twice a month), then wipe the dish and put it back in the enclosure. I fill them IN the cage with a water bottle.
Best dishes to use are wide, heavy, and low, so you don't have to fill it really full. :)

Holy crap 8's back welcome back bud how was the move.
Re: Share your "Water-Dish removal ways"
well that was easy, 1/2 full would help instead of 3/4. lol, i kno i`m still gonna spill some.
i think a brick sponge would cure my dillemma....i have a distance to walk with that water dish & corners to bump into...i think that added to it ...doh! lol
Re: Share your "Water-Dish removal ways"
I dispensed with standard water dishes some time ago. All my drawers now have a 5 inch PVC sleeve cut to fit a standard 16 oz deli cup. When I change water the deli cup is tossed (recycled) and replaced with a new one, eliminating the chore of dishwashing and disinfecting dishes, while assuring pristine water!
Re: Share your "Water-Dish removal ways"
The shape of your bowl probably has something to do with your problem... most of my bowls are pretty tall in proportion to their width, but I know they make wide shallow bowls as well that spill very easily. Just be careful, or fill the bowl after you put it in.
Re: Share your "Water-Dish removal ways"
Don't use a sponge! They harbor bacteria like nothing else, and it would just add to your chores to disinfect it constantly.
Why don't you have a bucket or 'dumping container' of some sort and a jug of fresh water with you when you change water? That way you can do it all right there and just dump out the bucket when you're done. :D
