    Acu Rite and Flukers Humidity?
For awhile now I've been using a flukers temp and humidity gauge. I read a lot of people talking about the acu rite so I went and purchased one. I have both of them together to see the difference in readings. It's only a few degrees different which is no big deal, but the humidity reads a 20% difference. Is the flukers gauge just crap? or do you think something is wrong with my Acu Rite

Here is how it's set up. I have the flukers right next to the probe of the Acu Rite in the basking spot. The Acu Rite unit is in the cool spot. The Acu Rite does read the humidity from the probe and not the actual unit, correct?

    Here are some pictures

    Fluker next to the probe

    Step back at placement

    Thank you
Hopefully the flukers is wrong so I can go and get my money back :D

have a question? are you using an UTH (under tank heater) pad or just the light as a heat source? if you're using an UTH, then the probe should be placed on the glass above the UTH to get an actual reading from the pad. Those things can get as high as 125 degrees (perhaps more), enough to burn a belly if the bp should get between the glass and the carpeting.

Thank you for the concern, but I was aware of that. As of right now, I don't have one. I need to get the tank off the carpet first. I will have that set up in about a week. I'm getting the Johnson Thermostat and that probe will be on the bottom of the substrate so I will have 2 readings.

    Bump

Does my setup on the last picture look like it could be 60% humidity? I have 2 water dishes under light, but I have a screen top.

I would be inclined to take both units to a different environment and test them in the same location. For example, I always know that our outside humidity on a sunny and clear day is about 25%. I test my units about every month and the Acu-rites have never been off my more than 2%. I test them against my hubby's hygrometer which, according to him, is far superior in quality than the Acu-rite... ahem... :8:

We actually have a few acu-rites, which when set next to each other can have a difference of a few percent all the way up to 20%. Most likely they are ones that have gotten wet or damaged in some way, but I thought I would throw that out there. ;)

My acu-rite is telling me that my humidity is over 100% right now :( And I don't see any rain in the tank....

I'm going to get a new one soon, lol
