Oh, wow! Great pictures E-dee. (-lol-) I love love LOVE that first beetle. What in the world is it? I've been wanting to get some insect "pets". After getting rid of the crickets I kept for the lizard, I miss them. Any suggestions? I want something a little out of the ordinary. Maybe some fancy roaches or beetles or something. You seem to know/love your bugs. ;)

Thanks, that first beetle is a Pleasing Fungus Beetle - Gibbifer californicus. I saw two of them while I was up there. I've kept millipedes/tarantulas/true spiders/scorpions. I'm TERRIFIED of roaches, but I think there are a few kinds that people keep as pets. If I had to keep any it would either be hissing roaches or deaths head roaches. Beetles live most of their life in the grub stage and I think it can be hard to find any to buy, I don't think they live long after maturing into actual beetles either (but I could be wrong, I only looked into them for a short period of time).

I think that giant Tanzanian Tailless Whip Scorpions are neat and unusual, they are fast and skittish though so not the best for handling.

He died a couple months ago but he was always the one that everyone thought was the strangest out of everything I kept.

I've seen those before. That's the Harry Potter bug - the one they did the Cruciatus curse on. They're not the prettiest "bug" in the world, are they? -lol-

Thanks, I saw 2 of those moths up there. They were my favorites too, I found one that wasn't looking too good in the garage and she climbed up on my jacket and hung out with me for a while until I found her a tree away from the garage to go on

In the second picture? If thats what you mean it is some type of long horn beetle, I do not know the exact species - he was pretty cool though! It was my first time seeing longhorns and stag beetles outside of one of my framed collections, it was really exciting.
