Re: Having Humidity Problems
50% is not terribly low. Ideally you want your humidity between 55% - 60%. If it's staying around 50%, a daily misting should help keep the humidity where it should be.
Re: Having Humidity Problems
If I understand you correctly, you are using a tank with a screen cover. You will probably want to cover most of the screen with something to reduce the airflow. Otherwise you'll lose lots of heat and humidity and have trouble keeping the environment stable.
I use a piece of styrofoam insulation stuff because we happened to have it around the house. It looks bad but gets the job done and the cost was right.
One of the simplest things that lots of people have had great success with is to put 3 layers of aluminum foil on the screen and tape it in place with duct tape.
Some people do use the damp towels on the screen and report good success. Two concerns I see with it is that it won't be as useful for trapping the heat, but if your heat is ok then that won't matter. But also it could be a breeding ground for bacteria and other yuckies, so if you do use this method, make sure to wash & disinfect the towel frequently.

i use a heavy vinyl cut to fit the screen with holes cut out for the infared light. I haven't had any humidity issues :D yet anyway
