Home in the Forest: Requested Pics (DUW)

In the dial-up thread, I mentioned that I live so far out, its not an option! There was a couple requests for pictures, so I went out and played "nature photographer" and took some for you all. :P

My grandfather and grandmother built this place about 36 years ago, all on their own. They named it Landofour, because at the time, it was the four of them, their selves and their two children, my mother and uncle.

Now, the place is overgrown like crazy (beautifully in my opinion!) because up until last year, it was just my grandmother, and of course she can't go out and do the work. We're slowly but surely beating back the overgrowth though!

This is the end of the mile long lane leading into the property, and the gate. One interesting fact, it's misspelled! My grandfather named it "Landofour" and there's an "a" on the gate instead of the "o".

Here is the front of the house, as seen from just inside the gate.

Here is the side of the house, where we go in and out most of the time. The silver building is the office my grandfather built when I was very little, so he could work from home.

Here, we're standing on the side porch, looking back towards the gate, over the ivy garden my grandmother enjoys.

Here we are still standing on the porch, looking out at the side yard and the red barn. It's very old, and has a few holes, but it looks lovely and nostalgic.

Here we've gone onto the back porch and are looking out into the backyard, which goes all the way to the pond.

These two pictures, we've gone down the pathway which leads to the pond. Very peaceful. I wasn't able to get any pictures of the pond itself sadly, but its pretty ugly during the summer anyways!

This is the inside of the gate, leading out to the lane, and the mailbox at the end. I tell you, its darn good exercise to get the mail everyday.

I really hope you enjoyed. Living out here is worth not having dial-up, especially with no neighbors! Nothing like going out early in the morning to feed the animals and watch the birds.

Kinda makes me want to move.

This place of yours reminds me of a friends house.. we would walk from it and get carried away into a grassy/woody area that had a gate just like that.

Ack! I just realized the first picture is incorrect. I bet that was confusing! So please, replace that picture with this one in your mind.

It didn't go with the description! I accidently posted the wrong picture under the description, its the second to last picture. I'm so goofy.

That is beautiful and I love the name that your grandparents gave it; it gives the place instant history and your family members a sense of belonging. Yea Grandma and Grandpa!! :P

We're doing something similar with our ranch and I just sure hope that one day our grandkids (we have 4 so far) and great grandkids will love it and appreciate it as much as you appreciate what your family members built.

It's a very meaningful legacy.

Awesome! My kind of place. I live in the middle of a cornfield.. we have to go out back to get to the woods.. Not too bad but it's nice that you have the woods right there!
