how to get snake from show
I am going to my first show next weekend and am planning on picking up another ball python or two. Seeing as I've never been to one, I'm not really sure how they work. How does everyone get their snakes home from the show? I have about a 2 hour drive.
When you buy the snakes do the breeders include something to carry them in? or should i bring a few tubs? How about inside the show... if I find the snake I want at the beginning do i need to find something to carry the snake around with me while I look at the rest? Sorry for all the questions but I am completely clueless..
Re: how to get snake from show
When I went, you just gave them cash and they would put the snake in a small container and that was it.
Re: how to get snake from show
Most will give you a plastic container
But just in case you don't get that, bring your own pillow case to put him in. is it really hot where you are? If not, then that should be all you need. just keep him in a not too warm/not too cool place for your drive and you'll be good. Not in direct sunlight either.
Most breeders will hang onto the snake and mark it as "sold" and you can pick it up whenever you leave :)

bring your own pillow case just in case....i would also seriously consider spraying it w/ provent a mite....
Re: how to get snake from show
Thanks for the info. guess a pillow case is a lot easier than a tub huh? I'm guessing you just tie the pillowcase loosely? Any other tips for the show? I've never bought from a breeder before.. just a local pet store!

Hi,
Take some hand sanitizer - you may be handling several animals and some of the vendors may not have any.
Think of it as pre-emptive quarantine for your new pet - talking of which make sure you have the QT tank/tub set up and stable before you go and all the equipment you need for it, you can fill any missing parts at the show hopefully. :gj:

This is what we take to shows.
Small one....

Big one....

We also use these around the house to hold a snake, some rats, whatever while we clean enclosures, to take an animal to the vet, pretty much a ton of handy uses.
You can find these just about anywhere from dollar stores to Walmart, etc. for only a few bucks each. They have good latched lids and a handy carrying handle. For transporting a snake you can put some aspen in there and for extra security a small pillowcase or snake bag to hold the snake. You could put a label on it with your name, buy the snake, secure it and then either carry it around with you or leave it with the breeder for later pick-up if your comfortable with that.

Depends, I guess.

Or a rubber band :)

Watch out for breeders with really nice snakes. Your money always tends to exchange hands rather quickly once you've got your eye on something you love

Ha, yeah. We have already decided to limit the amount of money we are bringing to a reasonable amout so we don't go overboard. Just haven't decided on that reasonable amount yet, so who knows what will happen!
Now time to figure out what we need to get this tub all set up...
Re: how to get snake from show
I would also bring a tub to put your snakes in for the ride home. You may get a snake in a snake bag instead of a plastic container..and I've known several snakes to use the bathroom on the way home. I'd rather all that mess went into a plastic tub and not on my seats....
