Thanks. :) He gets them no more than every 2 weeks. Now that he is getting bigger though I am backing him off to about once a month. It's NOT a good idea to use them as a staple. It can cause an array of health problems to ingest too much mammilian fats and protiens, but as an occasional treat is fine.

    I HAVE A QUESTION!

I'm trying to figure out how they kill it.. but can't seem to. Do they just keep swallowing it until it like.. drowns in it's stomach acid? :8:

I depends on the frog and how they hit the rat. Sometimes they grab it and swallow it whole like in this video.

This is not my frog, (wish it was :) )it belongs to a good friend of mine, Doug. Boo is an absolutely stunning specimen, and you will be hard pressed in finding a nicer one. We have our own made up word for him...Massivity ;)

Sometimes they will grab them and you will literally hear them get crushed and it is instant death. Sometimes it's much like a snake in that it grabs the rat and squeezes the breath out of them as they swallow it.

Sometimes they will drag it into the water and hold it under until it drowns.

Notice in this video how he wiggles his toes while watching the rat. They do this in the wild to lure other frogs (usually their offspring) closer to them so they eat them. So it is an instinct for them to do this. It occurs in alot of frogs like pyxies, pacs, and some toads.

And yes, I do have his express consent to post his frog here. ;)

Interesting! They get creative I see. :D

So they eat their offspring? I don't know if I read that wrong or not..

Yes, they are extremely cannabalistic. However, the males will go to great lengths to ensure that their tadoles have water to survive by channeling water like in this video.

But once they are froglets then they will be eaten if their is no other food available. Pacs are also very cannabalistic if around others that are small enough to eat, and sometimes try to eat frogs of their own size as well.
