Baby females

How many of you buy baby normals to grow up? It seems like everyone is getting older females now-a-days. I saw three reduced females on KS that were around 80 grams each that I was interested in and wanted to post just out of curiosity. Thanks! Posts pictures of before and after size pics if you like!!:)

I have raised the majority of my females since they were babies and I am very likely to continue to do so, I am in no rush and I enjoy seeing them grow.

My first female, Amani, was purchased in 04. She was a little worm back then but well started and chubby. She took her sweet time to get to an appropriate size where I felt comfortable enough to place a male with her. She's now over 2000g and has just turned into a very nice girl.

Nice sized females are nice... but if you can get some sharp looking hatchlings and you know you are committed to raising them up, then go for it.

We all have to start with babes at some point. That is half the fun, it is nice having the older females, but raising up your snake and letting her take her time to get to where you want her is very rewarding as well.

I am hoping to get a bag of CH girls next year, and am looking forward to raising the babes up, and this year I will hold back all my female hatchlings as well.

We got some babies (45 and 74 grams) recently and started raising them up. We got to lesser sibling females for the price of two baby CH girls at a show. Took them to one of our friends at the show and had him sex them to make sure. We were looking for a couple normal females to raise up with unique markings, but when we came across these we decided to add the instead. We also got a baby male and female mojave (49 and 78 grams). They are growing like weeds. We have also bought 3 adult normal females to get a jump on breeding and figuring out the whole process and what works for us. This way maybe we can get any mistakes we make with eggs out of the way before we start breeding our female morphs. We have two really great breeders helping us out with tech support right now which is really nice and I hope it keeps us from making any mistakes.

All but 1 of my females I have raised from a baby. I have been bit I will be bit again. But Id rather get a baby female grow it up that way I know whats going on with her. I know if shes a biter or not. You dont want to buy a big 4000g female and find out she is the devil and wants to bite your face off. Im not saying that you wont find a few babies that you grow up to be the same way. But to me no big hurry and I know all about the females. So its better for me to raise them up.

Out of my ten snakes, only half are adults. I like raising a snake up from a little one - you get to see them get bigger and stronger under your care, you can see how they change from little one to adult, and you KNOW their health history. :)

The only reason I have adult snakes is the reason I have so many: Breeding intentions. Unfortunately I can't breed my corns for another few years because, tho the males are adults the females are all little ones! Sigh. But I am going to be breeding my Ball python adults next season. :D All to get back a bit on upkeep (and because my BF says it's something I can do to contribute to income).
