    prescenting question
My BP is kept in my room, where I also have a pet mouse and two pet rats... is it a problem for her to be exposed to the scent all the time? She's eaten twice for me without any problems, took her less than fifteen minutes each time. but she doesn't go after me when I reach in or anything, and is fairly calm when I handle her. So I don't think the smell is bothering her, but could it be a problem?

I know a lot of people keep their rats and snakes in the same room. Obviously the snakes still eat or we'd have a lot of sad stories. But I don't know how it affects the pre-scenting routine.

I'm wondering about it myself now...

well, i haven't done the prescenting thing, because it doesn't make sense when the scent is already in the room... I've just come home with food, and tossed it in there with her... i'm just wondering if its going to drive her batty if she constantly smells food...

Hey I'm trying to research a similar situation as you Halfway. I have 3 mice that were supposed to be all Male but somehow a Female slipped in and got enpregnated. So now I have 3 mice + many more soon to come, these mice are kept in the same room as my snake about 10ft away in a 10gl glass cage. I can smell the mice when I walk in the front door, that musk, so I figure my ball can as well. Like you im wondering if this is driving my snake crazy or if when I handle him for exercise and fun (on his part heh) is he going to be more aggressive? I live in a roughly 1000sq ft Apt. with basically no extra rooms to put the mice.

My rat tubs are about a foot away from my snake racks, and I don't have a problem at all.

My breeding colony started in my bedroom across the way from the snakes. It was no problem, snakes acted fine, ate fine. Prescenting was the same.

All my rodents are in the snake room right next to the snakes. It's never been a problem. On feeding night I put the mouse in a container with holes on the top and bottom, then place the container on top of the snakes enclosure right over the cool end air holes. If they don't come out hunting right away I just blow on the top of the mouse container so the scent goes directly into the snakes enclosure and that almost always works.

My rodent colony is in the dining room and one of my quarantined snakes is just a few feet away from them and she doesn't seem to react at all... Until I prescent by placing her PK rat right on the lid of her tub. :) It's when they smell the prey right near them that they'll go into feed mode usually.

Our entire Ball Python collection lives in a large room. One side of the room is snakes, one side is rodents. There's usually around 75 to 100 rats or more of various sizes on that side of the room. Never seems to affect how our snakes eat. :)
