    Purina 5008 Labdiet?
In our search for decent lab chow in a 50 mile radius, I found a company that can order the Mazuri 6F, but also carries the Purina 5008 for $26.50 for a 50 lb bag.
It seems to compare decently to the 6F, except that its protein is higher, and its listed for hamsters as well as mice and rats. Has anybody used the 5008?
Currently we've been using dog food, and a mix similar to Becky's mix without the lab blocks, but I want to find a food that doesn't require so much supplementation for as we grow.

Where do you get it? Edmond, incidentally, is the closest I've been able to find anybody who keeps lab block of any kind in stock.

For what its worth, we haven't had much trouble with the dog food, but I didn't go into it as the only source, they've had other things all along, and we haven't been up and running for very long. Realizing that the dog food is not good enough to stand alone, and tiring of the waste factor (best dog food we've found is too little to sit on 1/2 cloth) is why I'm hunting for lab block.

No we're not part of OCHS, partly because I'm not sure we'd be welcome lol. We don't actually have herps, just setting this up to try to make a business out of it.

Circle E is where I called though, glad they work for you.

$18 a bag would be neat though, if thats still what he's selling it for, that stuff has been going up like wildfire....

I use Lab Diet 5012. It is a rodent diet. Works great. I pay $25.39 for a bag. Any feed store that carries Purina should be able to order it for you.

I don't know if you ever read this post of mine, but I prefer to keep the protein at a maintenance level. Right at 16-18%.

no no, they try to welcome as many people as they can. If you do not have herps who cares? lol, it is usually great and we meet every 3rd thursday each month in a facility next to the OKC zoo.

    the 5008 works great

Connie, yes I believe I had read that post before lol. Like I said it seems to be the biggest struggle of the whole operation for us right now.
We were in Tulas area this weekend though, and picked up some Mazuri 6F from a dealer there, which will work for now. We may well still try the 5008 after that though, as of course we're very nursing/pregnant mama and baby heavy. Hubby is talking right now that we might eventually have both, and vary who is fed what, although I'm not sure how that will come down.

    Thanks for all the input.
