    Wanna hear something rediculous?
Ok, so, at my current capacity, my rats are producing 1 large garbage bag of soiled litter per week. Normally on garbage day I just put the bag out with our other garbage, no problem right?

Well, last week, out of the blue, they did not take the bag. It had a huge hole torn in it by the garbage men to see what it was. So, to find out what happened, my dad called the city. He got through to someone and he asked why they didn't take it, and the man said they'll only take it, if the poop is separated from the shavings. HOW REDICULOUS IS THAT?!?! Imagine trying to separate a whole garbage bag's worth of rat poop. So now the bags are building up...

Anyone else have anything like this ever happen?

What! that is crazy? Maybe you can throw some other stuff in it the camouflage that it is shavings? Double bag it? Find your nearest dumpster:D ? ( kidding about that last part... but you did not hear that from me...)

Lol...I will be honest, I would find some random dumpster to put it in, maybe switch it up to keep it low. If you have any small business friends, or friends that work at places with dumpsters, that may be an option. If nothing else, I know some people compost it, but it would end up building up a lot even with that.

They do that because your not supposed to throw away dog doo doo and stuff like that. I'd just take it to a random fast food restaurant dumpster.

I'm just wondering what the heck made the guy decide to look into the bag? Was it heavy? Lucky for me there is a ball park next to my house and the have a dumpster in the very back, along with a newspaper recycling bin( And I recycle some of it with my snakes!)

If it's too heavy, they can refuse to take it.Ergonomics or something stupid. Yes, I've had to argue and wrestle with stupid garbage men my whole life.

If you think you can, you can split it up amongst a bunch of bags you might get away with it, but if you keep pushing it and they find out I think they can cite you. I'm not sure on that anymore.

But, good to hear that you have a dumpster nearby. :)

yeah, ive never had to use it and do not plan to, but if the time ever comes i have an emergency plan. Right now I just dump my shavings into random trash bags that are being used in our normal trash can. Now back to the OP, keep us updated on this!

Check for a mulch place near you. We have a place that mulches, and gives away the mulch for free(a county thing).
I dislike the "use someone's dumpster" since I've been the business owner.

We have a theory as to why they didn't take it. The week following the original week were the bag was left, was yard waste week. We suspect that due to the shape of the bag, the garbage men thought it might have been grass clippings. So they tore the bag open and saw these woodshavings. They probably assumed it to be garden mulch, which would be picked up on yard waste week, so they did not take it. On yard waste day, we put the bag back out, and they DID take it. Tonight is garbage night (NOT yard waste), we have a bag of shavings out there, so come tomorrow morning I'll report whether or not they took it.

Apartment complex dumpster. Go to an apartment complex and put it in the dumpster.... residents drive up and dump off trash all day long.
