This year, I didn't make a box for my girls as they are both in tubs. When I had my one girl in a large cage last year, I made her a box by filling a sweater box with damp moss and putting it in her cage. She did use it, but it isn't all that necessary. When they're ready to lay, they will, in the best area available.

I usually do half repti-bark half moss mixture, and then just spray is down just enough to raise the humidity in the box to keep is damp. :)

I've never used an egg box with ball pythons. I use one regularly with my colubrids, but since pythons wrap their eggs in their coils and in effect turn themselves into a laying box, I've never seen the need.

I don't. Some do; it is a matter of personal preference I guess. :) My females almost always seem to move the newspaper aside and lay right onto the rubbermaid tub floor. Last year I had one egg that, after being laid on newspaper, picked up some of the ink of the paper onto itself. This had no ill effects on the egg, incubation or hatching.
