    Ovulating without breeding!
Well, here's the deal. I went upstairs to check on some eggs, and noticed that Houdini (long been thought a male) had pooped in the tub. I also noticed that Houdini was wrapped around the water dish, and appears to have the lumpy look like "he" was ovulating??

    Temps are
    93 warm side,
    82 cool side
    Humidity 56%

How often if at all will a ball python do this without ever being exposed to a male?

I realize that nothing will come of it, I was just curious if they ever do this? Or actually lay eggs with out being around a male.

My male has this behavior.. When you say lumpy do you mean one huge lump or several small lumps? several small lumps are not an ovulation its just a body position causing it to look lumpy.

    Pics would help a ton.

    edit:
I found some ovulation pics in another thread for comparison.

I was going to get pics but I had to move him to clean out his tub.

I think you are right though. It was several small lumps, but his belly was up against the bowl. It was really weird to see, I have never seen him wrapped around his water bowl like that.

I saw a male spider ball like that just the other day at the store. Looked like a gravid female but was a male laying funny. :)

I was going to suggest that if you're in Tennessee it was probably parthenogenesis....but since you're in Idaho, it's probably just a male lying funny :P
