Are all BP as nice as mine?

Hi,

My BP is so nice. First he's never attacked me (I handle him with care). He hugs me (figure of speech) and loves to come towards me and then crawl on me. He also loves to stay around my neck. I try to handle him 3 to 4 times a week...

So my question is... Are your BP as nice as mine?

Sounds like a keeper. ;) Generally speaking, ball pythons are very laid-back snakes that are easy to handle.

Well, I've had mine for over a month now and he's just a three month old baby... he's always been very laid back, though I've not handled him too much. This past two days, he's been nervous and jumpy, yesterday he struck at me with his mouth closed and today I held him a few minutes and he did not try to strike, but he was quite nervous and tried to go back to his enclosure the whole time... I guess he was not in the mood =)

Alyssa, I've had my python for a year now (he was about as old as yours then) and he was extremely scared and shy in the beginning. He never tried to strike but I decided to handle him almost every day for a couple of weeks and it changed everything. He got used to me. I'd suggest you do the same. Now he's my best friend :-)

Thanks Drmoz! I will try that, I just don't want to bother him, you know... he's an amazing feeder (you'd not believe what a great hunter the little chap is), and I'm afraid I'll stress him out if I handle him too often... but I'll try it out! Thanks for the great advice =D

My female is a sweetie, but my male on the other hand... not so much, I think if he was bigger he'd try to eat me. seriously. no joke Peyton does NOT like me. Its crazy. But I LOVE him!!!;)

i have 3 and only 1 has ever tried to bite the hand that feeds.it was totally my fault for moving too fast so i think all mine are very chill

As a general rule, if you don't want to be bitten, wash your hands after handling mice, rats or girls (only joking). And move slowly when you're around your bp. If you move too fast, your bp will see you as a pray. Even if you feed it. Come on, put yourself in its shoes for a little while. What would you do if a hand bigger than your entire body moved fast towards you. Ok, you'd die of a heart attack but ball pythons would strike.

Handle it with care like as it was your little baby.

A funny thing you can try, try to stroke your bp on its stomach (well, on the white surface it walks on) and you'll see that its white skin does not like it. But it should not byte.

Mostly! Out of 9 I have one that gets pissy she will hiss alot and then strike if I don't leave her alone. Feeding time can be a pain because if I piss her off she strikes the food but its a defensive strike so she doesn't eat it..
