Eye Dent

Alice is outgrowing his hide. I plan on buying him a complete new setup at the reptile show next month. After he ate two days ago, he slithered back off into his hide and with every coil he made, the hide "bumped" off the ground a bit, but he finally managed to get himself all snug up in there. Yesterday when I checked on him by shining a flashlight into the opening, it looked like one side of his face was pressed up against the side. It's one of those hides that looks like a rock. Tonight I got him out and the first thing I noticed was the left eye had a very slight dent in it. It wasn't there after his shed 10 days ago, so I think he did it on the hide. The eye isn't cloudy or anything, but I was wondering how it might actually affect his vision and do y'all think it will resolve itself with his next shed?

His temps and humidity are great and he has never appeared dehydrated in any way. Someone please tell me I have nothing to worry about.....:O

I was afraid y'all would say that. With the exception of the 48 hours following feeding, I handle him daily. We go outside often and the sunlight reveals everything, but I didn't notice this prior to this evening. However, since his last shed was in a wad in his hide, I can't say for certain that it was "perfect." But let's assume it was...is it possible that his eye was injured by being squished against the wall of his hide?

It could be a retained eyecap, but even if it is it's not going to hurt anything. Just check for the eyecaps next time he sheds. If he doesn't get it off next time it will be more obvious compared to the other eye, and then you can deal with it.

When I first got my little fella he had multiple retained eyecaps, and with some good husbandry he got them all off after a couple of rough sheds.

I always unroll the shed skin and check for the eye caps... unless in the middle of the skin is a pile of poo :P

My snake has gotten that before. All that I did was just soak him in water and make sure his eyes get wet. After a little while of soaking, he gets hydrated an both of his eyes are perfect and round. Good luck, hoped this helped!
