Ambient temps

I know a lot of you have snake rooms, and I secretly hate all of you for that :). But enough of that. I have my snakes in my room, which varies in temp. Some days the ambient temps are right on, some days it is off.

I looked up some oil filled radiators on Ebay yesterday, and I'll probably order one at the end of summer for winter.

What do you guys do to raise/lower ambient temps in the rooms you keep your snakes?

With those oil based heaters you might want a fan to circulate the air. My nephews had one in their room to raise ambient temps and it seemed like the heat was extremely localized. I use a ceramic heater which blows the air. The ceramic may reduce humidity a bit, but using melanine racks (vs the open air racks) I have not had a problem.

Also, I would caution against relying on the built in thermostats of these devices. I have mine hooked up to a Ranco, since the on board thermostat of the ceramic heater is terrrrrriiiible!

I keep my snake room (converted laundry room) at about 82 degrees with an oil filled heater controlled by a Johnson thermostat. This way, the entire room is the cool side and I only have to worry about heating a warm spot to about 92.

I use a radiant heat panel in my reptile basics cages. These units work really well for raising the ambient temps and are comparable in energy usage to flex watt.
