General question about new snake...
Hey everyone... I was curious about something... I recieved a new snake 2 days ago from a really great breeder who posts on this forum. It was a awesome looking spider ball.
Well when he arrived his tank wasnt here yet due to shipping mishaps and I had to put him in a 10 gallon temp tank.
Well last night I got his new tank, got it ready, and was all set to go. The one stupid mistake I did was I brought the 10 gallon with the snake in it and put it on the counter next to the new tank and I think this stressed him out.
Because when I went in to get him, I gently rubbed his side to let him know I wasnt going to hurt him and he took a defensive strik at my arm. Mouth was closed so I know it wasnt true agression.
I immediately relized the mistakes I had made and put the new tank where it was going to go permanetly and put the 10 gallon bank where it was and covered it with my shirt half way to give him some security.
A few hours later I tried again and he immediatley got into the s shape and I could tell he was pissed.
Do you think I should just wait a week and try again? He did just shed yesterday and I know he is over due one day for a meal.
Should I just follow the standard 1 week wait period before I do anything or?
I emailed the breeder I bought him from with the same questions, but I thought I should ask here too... I had bps all my life when I was younger, but for some reason I feel like such a noobie when it comes to this little guy. I guess it has been too long... Either that or I am getting softer the older I get... LOL
Re: General question about new snake...
I would personally put him in his new permanent home and give hime a week of complete peace to settle in. He should be ok given the complete week of no stress afterwords.
Edit: Some snakes are just nippy or defensive also. My pastel was a hissing machine when he was younger, I still get the occasional hiss but its less frequent now that he's older.
Re: General question about new snake...
I'd feed him and wait 2 days and then put him into his new enclosure. If he hisses or strikes you still need to pick him up and move him- otherwise he is associating hissing and striking with you leaving him alone.
Re: General question about new snake...
well I got him in his new enclosure... He was in his hide in the temp tank, so I just picked him and the hide up gently and put him in his permenant enclosure....

Make sure to take some pics after he's settled in and had his first meal :)
