hardware cloth/plastic tub lids
What does everyone do to attach hardware cloth to their plastic tub lids?
I made a hamster cage similar to what is described to use for breeding mice/rats, but used screws up through the lid.
I've read here some people just hot glue the hardware cloth to the plastic lids... don't the mice/rats chew through that? Do you glue the inside of the lid or outside?
Anyone ever used silicone?

I wouldn't use silicone, or glue. Just drill/cut holes and zip tie the hardware cloth to it.

Yup, I've used both wire (I think 18 guage) and zipties. I have never had a rat try to chew out this way.

Wire woven through holes in the lid.

Works great! Place the hardware cloth Inside and weave from the Outside and no chewing occurs.
Re: hardware cloth/plastic tub lids
I use zip ties on the lids and as long as they are nice and tight and checked on a regular basis you should be fine, if i notice a tub that is always trying to chew out I will take some aluminum tape and run it around the edges over the zip ties and this seems to stop them for awhile but never have had to many issues

But then you have to worry about rats impaling themselves on the ends, because the staples stick out.
