Hello. I purchased my BP on March 30th and immediately located this forum. I have learned so much over the past two months and thank you all for sharing your knowledge. I have found that whenever I have had a question, someone else has probably already had the same question and the answers have been provided; hence, thus far I've only had to lurk.
I think things have gone relatively well thanks to the wealth of information I have found here. Alice was 118 grams when I got him. I took him to the vet right away for sexing and a thorough exam. Indeed he was a male...I named him Alice on purpose. Unfortunately, he did have some internal protozoa for which we make a trip to the vet every two weeks for treatment. In the interim, he eats F/T with no hesitation, has had two perfect sheds, and currently weighs 255 grams. I think he's grown about 3 inches in length as well, but that's a little more difficult to measure. The vet says he looks great.
I finally have come up with a question that I've not yet seen addressed. This morning when I removed him from his cage to clean under his hide where he shed and urinated last night, it occurred to me that he smelled like urine as well. Everything I've read says there is no need to bathe a BP unless he has stuck shed, and soap is definitely a no-no. Have y'all ever had this problem and how was it solved? To me it would seem to be just as bad a situation as a baby wearing a wet diaper...it's not good for the skin and you would clean baby off. I did wet a washcloth with warm water and let him run through it, but without any disinfectant, how does that actually get him clean and sanitary?
Sorry for such a long post and such a strange question. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks!
Robbin :)
