    We got a scorpion
So, I am not to fond of having a scorpion, it gives me the heebie jeebies, but my boyfriend wanted one, so we went and got an emperor scorpion today. EEK!

Any suggestions or tips would be helpful! :D

well that certainly is a good way to learn to get over your heebie jeebies...to be totally honest, I'm terrified of spiders, but i've considered getting a tarantula to help me with my fears. I used to be scared of snakes too :gj:

I'm sure this is prime way to get over my fear, but even thinking about him, makes my skin crawl lol!

I personally would never own a spider. Oh goodness no!

LOL, I've had scorpions and tarantula's far longer than snakes! As long as you are careful there is nothing to be afraid of. Low maintenance pets!

The important thing to remember about Pandinus imperator is that it is a rainforest species and needs to have high humidity. Use potting soil or some other substrate that holds water well. I would recommend it be 3-6 inches deep or so. Keep the temps about 75 or so, provide a water dish and a hide and you will be good to go.

We do have the potting soil type soil, and it is damp, the only thing that we didn't do is make it deep deep. Its only about two inches right now. We have the hide box and the shallow water dish. :)

I would add more soil to make it deeper. You can contour it to provide some "natural" depressions for it to hide in also.

Sometimes potting soils can have chemicals or other substances that may harm insects, unless you look carefully at what is in the soil. When I kept arachnids 100% peat moss is what I kept them on (you can get a big bail of it for like $7, it lasts forever), another good idea to keep humidity up is to add vermiculite to peat moss, this will keep moisture very well.

;) she got it at the reptile store.. its that stuff that comes in a block. When I had my frogs, I personally used organic potting soil, and then started using the brick stuff later on.
