    I need your help!
Just as an unexpected child can convince a husband to stay with his wife, an unexpected clutch can convince this man to keep his snake collection.

I just had the first clutch of my BP life this afternoon. I thought she was preggo (see my other posts) but nowhere near laying. The thing is, this has got to be the sorriest looking clutch I've ever seen. Three total eggs, one slug. Not to mention the two possible viable eggs are super tiny...Now, I didn't breed her, I bought her (unknown) gravid. So, don't flame me for breeding underweight, etc.

But now what? These little tikes are just fighting to live. I didn't have my incubator runnin since I just rearranged the house and thought I was a few weeks of...turns out a "pre-ovy shed" was really a pre-lay shed...

Any help to make this work out would be great! thanks!

Did you candle the two eggs yet?

Either way, you may want to just let the female incubate them until you get your incubator setup. Or you could just let her incubate them to term, but if she's that small you'll probably want her to start feeding as soon as possible.

    Good luck!

I'm waiting to see if she has any more in her. I think I may end up leaving her on em til term...I know theres nothing magnificent in there, but I would like to see a clutch term before my first real season starts...

Dane, you can slap together a decent incubator if you want to. It might be easier on you and on the snake. Lots of people have been successful with maternal incubation as long as they kept the female's enclosure at the proper temps and humidity but it does mean she won't be eating for the time she's incubating that clutch.

Jamie Glass has a super easy homemade incubator on his site....

The other fast option might be a Hovabator (the one with the fan in it). It's not a great option for snake eggs but it may be better than nothing. You can usually find those easily at any major farm supply store.

well, my incubator is all setup now, I just dont have the substrate for my boxes. But an update for the eggs, she pushed two out and is hardly wrapped around one. To be honest, I'll be surprised if any of em make it...we'll see...

Candle what she pushed out, mothers will usually push out what she thinks are dead or infertile.

Good luck with them. I have seen some sorry looking reptile eggs hatch out nice babies so you never know. Keepem humid but not wet, thats the hard part with maternal incubation and stable temps.

all duds...crap. I think she was far too underweight to be preggo anyway. But, you can't control other people I guess...She ate real good today, so that's a plus. I'll just get her to weight and treat her nice for future breeding...
