    yea that's big enough...

but have fun with the smell.... i don't like open cages. i use tubs or tanks, they hold the smell in alot better.

They hold the smell in a lot better, and suffocate the animals.

That's fine for feeders, but for a pet, you should always get an open cage. That cage is similar to what I have my two girls in, and they barely fit comfortably. Always buy the biggest you can. If you're getting males, you'll definitely need a bigger cage. Once you start putting stuff in there, it shrinks VERY quickly.

And in all honesty, it's better to just spend a little more the first time instead of upgrading later. It saves money over time.

This is the cage I'm considering moving up to:

It's reasonably priced and is definitely big enough. You can also try Martin's cages. They have good sized cages for decent prices. You'll want to get the wire coated, though. Uncoated wire holds the smell of pee. It's horrible.

30x18? Well, technically it can hold them. I use concrete tubs just a smidgin smaller for breeding animals.

What would I recommend? A multi level super pets cage. Go to pet warehouse, they have awesome prices, and sell extra levels and ramps for that cage too.

Check out craigslist too, I got a HUGE (really huge) cage for real cheap locally. $40 for something that originally costs like 150-200. :gj:

Trust me... don't get a 'My First Home' cage. Those things fall apart with very little effort, and they are tiny. I know, I worked at Petsmart and had to put those together for displays. I even owned one for a Guinea Pig, but of course he outgrew it fast and I put hardware cloth around the top for rats...and they barely fit.

Better would be a two level, something made for chinchillas or ferrets. Of course, I went all out with the cage I finally got for them:

That is a Ferret Nation double level, @$229 at Petsmart. Covered with 1/4" hardware cloth for security (worked beautifully). The three girls I had adored that cage, and it's a snap to clean compared to others. :)
Just get the biggest open wire cage you can afford. The bigger the cage the more your rats will love it.
