temps ?

so im wondering wen you guys say the warm side should be 88 to 94 degrees does that mean the surface temp or the temp of the heat pad?im using reptibark and i kinda wedge the probe under the warm side hide on the surface.it is anywhere between 88 to 94 depending on the time of day.thank in advance!

I measure directly on the glass, inside the enclosure so I know exactly what temp my bp can/is exposed to on the warm side.

I would aim for the hot spot to be at ~92F. Put the probe directly on the glass; under all of the substrate. Find the hot area and measure there. What are you using to control the temps now? Are both your guys in there? You posted the new snake inside the terrific looking tank; is the other snake in there too? If so, how are they behaving? You really need to be observant with this...:oops:

in the 10 gallon i have a lamp dimmer and the other nothing.and there def in seperate cages.both boys so no chances are bein takin.i did have them out together on my bed and they seemed to be just fine.im gonna get a thermostat for the 20L in a few weeks.but i take it the top of the substrate being 92 is too hot?

Strive for no higher than 94 on the glass and no lower than 90 on the surface of the substrate inside the hide. Adjust the thickness of substrate until you have a reasonable range going.

Yeah- this was tricky for me in my RBI cages that my boas are in. I thought that I'd do aspen for them since they like to kind of dig down. That substrate and dinking around with it and trying to get the temps right with.... Jeez, I went back to paper and have a small area on the cool end of the cage with just a pile of aspen for them.

Tanks with a loose substrate take talent that I apparently do not have :P

how is the humidity wen using np?and i know the blacklite i have is sucking out the humidity but if i clamp it a lil higher will it not draw out so much?

I live in the high desert where our humidity is totally low all year round. I use RBI racks and RBI cages and they rock!! If I want to bump humidity up (like for a shed) I just move the water bowl in the racks. In the cages, I put a small container of Chilean long fiber moss and-- oh man.....I'm telling you, that moss rocks!!! It holds the moisture really well and smells sooooo good!! Makes the snakes and keeper very happy!!
