That not all yellow bellies produce ivories?

I think a snake that is genetically a yellow belly has the possibility of producing ivories when paired with another genetic yellow belly.

But I think some snakes can have the same appearance of a yellow belly, but not be genetic.

Well I mean is it possible that pair of yellow bellies will never produce an ivory in any clutch, and not just bad luck, like some of them dont carry the het ivory gene?

even if it is a real yellow belly and not a normal that looks like a yellow belly?

is there any way to know it's a real yellowbelly other than having an ivory parent?

I read somewhere that there was some going around when YB's came about. They looked like YB's when two of them were bred together. There wasnt even any YB looking baby produced. They were bred a few years just to see if they missed the odds. Even to normals to see if they would get any YB looking babies. Ill have to see if I can find the site that I seen that on.

All yellowbellies will produce ivories when bred to each other. If not, they are not yellowbellies. You may have heard that because people have sold snakes as yellowbellies when they were not actually yellowbellies. However, I think this is less of a problem now than it was in the past. If you want to be sure, purchase from a proven ivory producing line. Some YBs are also unmistakable.

Being a Yellowbelly does not make it a Het Ivory. Buy from a breeder who has a proven line of Het Ivories and you won't go wrong. My Het Ivory pair doesn't even have "yellow bellies", but they sure have lots of speckling, blushing/flames, and wonky patterns going for them.

So am I wrong? I thought being a het ivory is what made a YB a YB.

I guess it is a matter of definition. Is a "yellow belly" a snake that has a particular look? Or is it a snake that carries the ivory gene?

I don't believe there is any one official BP dictionary to look it up, so some people probably use it one way, and other people use it the other.

Whichever definition is being used, if you want a het ivory, make sure you buy from a reputable breeder with a proven line.
