Re: New to the Forum
1st question is how long should I let the guy get used to his new home till we can handle him again?
I am planning on feeding him on Saturday for the 1st time. The whole pre-killed thing makes me nervous. All my other snakes were fed live prey in their own habitats. Advice welcome.
Thanks
Drew

I usually give them at least a full week to settle down and get used to their enclosure. If he appears comfortable (hiding during the day and not roaming around constantly), then you can attempt feeding after a week.
I would recommend feeding in his tank as moving him to a different container will most like add additional stress. Don't be discouraged if he doesn't take it, just try again in another week.
Good luck!

Welcome to the forum :gj:
We try our best to teach everyone that there is no one way to do things. Some places swear that if you feed live, you're a horrible owner... I, along with quite a few others, find that kind of mentality to be pretty silly. If you want to feed live, then feed live...Just keep an eye on the process.
Don't be afraid to try out new things. I think the best way you can learn is through experience..but then again, there really is no reason to reinvent the wheel. If you have questions, just ask! You won't get flamed for what some perceive as a "stupid" question. We all have to learn some how :)

As a kid I had a bull snake that was injured by a mouse.

That is my greatest fear with feeding live, and although all can go well if supervised, I prefer to feed frozen/thawed rats. If my snakes did not accept f/t then I would most defiantly feed live. Totally up to the owner:)
