    Feeding Gravid Females
not sure if this has been asked yet but does anyone feed their gravid girls??

mine started refusing food a couple weeks before ovulation so i stopped feeding. now some may be a few days away from laying but during the most part after their pre-lay shed they seem obviously uncomfortable but they also display some hunger behaviour.

im not going to feed them because they should be laying really soon and i might as well wait but for next time around is it ok to feed during the earlier stages after their pre-lay shed?

I've never had a gravid female that was willing to eat for me... I've heard of exceptions though. I don't think its best even if they would eat... there's a reason they don't want to do it naturally. The eggs take up all the available space down there...

I have fed gravid girls before, and if they take it, they take it. I feed smaller, usually, just for my own sake :)

i was thinking that if i did feed i would go smaller as well for all those reasons. i know that most dont feed gravid girls but i feel bad when they look at me all hungrily like that...:tears:

i guess if they take it they take and know its fine.:snake:

Females will generally get really active right before they lay, a bit aggressive and down right miserable looking right before they lay - perhaps you're just getting a mixed signal ??? LOL

I haven't had a girl that would eat after ovulation - aside from just not having room - digestion and egg production are the two most strenuous activities on a balls system - I'm not sure you'd want them to do both at the same time. Perhaps something very small if she'll take it. :gj:

    congratulations on the impending clutch!

    thanks!

i think youre right that i may be confusing "leave my gravid self the heck alone!" with "feed me now please!". but i swear this one girl would take a rat right now if i offered and shes due within the next 10 days or so. i guess shes gonna have to wait it out.

I usually dont feed until 5 days after they lay. If I am not sure if a girl is gravid I would feed her very small items.
