possible gender clue?

i've had my albino corn for 5 months now. she/he is probably about 6-7 months old. everything is going perfectly with eating, shedding, handling etc but i still don't know if its a guy or girl. its also still not named :(

i noticed on its last shed yesterday that there are reddish spots on the corners of the cloaca. (i can post pics if necessary) is this a clue as to what gender it is? is this something i should be worried about? lol

also, any name ideas would be appreciated :P :P

The only outward clue as to gender of corns that I know of is the length/shape of the tail...and that's not always an accurate indicator.

In females, the tail (from the cloaca to the tip) indents suddenly after the cloaca and is not that long, while in males the tail tapers off steadily and is much longer.

The best way to find out the sex of your corn is to have them popped or probed by a professional vet or breeder.

See if you can find someone that knows how to probe then.Where do you live as this might help you find someone possible here that could help you.

:) Agreed, try to find someone who can help you probe 'him'. I had a lovely amelanistic, tho with an attitude, for months that I had been told was male. He was bought as a male. When I had finally had enough of his attitude, I decided to trade him with a trusted reptile friend...who probed him when I brought him in and found, despite the longer tail, that 'he' was a 'she'. :D I still traded her, since she was too much of a handful, but was upset at the misinformation when I bought her.

So yes, try to get your snake probed and be sure...for peace of mind if nothing else.

can petco do it? the herp guys at my local one don't seem retarded lol one was a bp breeder so he must know his stuff. it might be free as well

.... I wouldn't go there. Even if there's a good person who does it regularly with their own snakes, they won't have the probes there to work with. I would go to a prof. breeder or a vet. Oftentimes vets won't charge (or at least, not a lot) for something like sexing.

My female butter corn has a very long tail. If I went just on tail length I would say male for sure but she's a she. My guess is the chain stores won't have anyone that will be able to probe for you or even know what that is. Unless of course you happen to get one with a reptile hobbyist working there.

cant you use sub-caudal scale count? thats usually fairly accurate or so ive heard, of course the probing by a vet is your best bet but for a rough guess!!!(oh and taking a picture is way easier than trying to hold your snake) i wanted to do this but when i got my corn she/he was missing a bit of her tail tip due to stuck shed so no such luck!
