    new setup
    ok,so i put the other hide on the cool side.my temps are now 92 on hot and 80 on cool.since my room is so cold and the probe gauging the hot side is at 92 do i really need a rheostat?and how am i doing ?

    I would still use a rheostat, or dimmer at least. You can never be too safe.

    Too true. Those temps could spike suddenly on a warm night... Use a rheo at least, if not pick up a $30 ReptiTemp 500R t-stat from ReptileSupply.com.

    The tank looks great, but I would cover the sides as well as the back to help him feel more secure. Otherwise, looking good. :)

    thanks for the input.i went out today and bought a lamp dimmer.will this work?i have tried a ton of pet stores and seen no rheostats or thermostats.

    Best places to shop for temp control are ReptileBasics.com for the 'high end' thermostats, and ReptileSupply.com for the cheaper, but still acceptable, ZooMed stats or rheostats. Better to spend the $30 on a ZooMed stat while you save up for the better Johnson or Ranco..or better yet, Herpstat...then spend on a dimmer or rheostat unless your room temps stay within a degree or two all the time. Unfortunately, not many pet stores will carry the thermostats or rheostats, even tho reptiles owners really need them. :(

    thanks for the replys! since ive had the dimmer hooked up that i bought today the temp has gone from 91 to 84 and the dimmer is at the highest setting.im takin it back tomorow for sure.im gonna check out a few other things on the link you guys posted.again thanx a bunch!
