Snake eat's Cat

Yummy cat: "Meet the snake that got the cream ... or the cat in this case. Redlynch resident January Clay got the shock of her life when she saw her fully-grown cat disappearing down the throat of the 3m python. She had let the cat outside about 5.30am on Wednesday morning and when she went to check on it 30 minutes later made the gruesome discovery. "When I came out of the house the cat's legs were hanging out of its mouth," she told The Cairns Post yesterday. "I knew there were snakes about, but I never expected one to come into my yard." Ms Clay only moved to Redlynch four months ago and had not seen a snake in the outdoor area before. Despite her sadness at seeing her five-year-old pet killed by the python, she was not upset at the snake. It's just nature, he was just doing what he normally does. My cat was in the wrong place at the wrong time." The python eventually left of its own accord."

Does this look like a Carpet Python?

Awww. I love cats. But it is nice to see someone understand that that's how nature goes. Obviously, cats are not snakes main food source. The snake sort of looks like a Carpet, but I'm new to snakes.

Is this the picture of the actual snake? Because, she say's it was in her yard and left but it looks like it had gotten into her house? I dunno, just looks this way.

Reminds me of the article where some people knew a snake was in/by their yard and they let the dog in the yard anyways and it was eaten.

Theres some good reasons out there to keep your cats indoors! Especially if you live in an area where you know snakes/predators/cars are near by.

Snakes are fairly common in most areas of Australia - they are often found in and around homes in most territories - it always surprises me to see them "snake ate my pet" stories hit the paper - they seem to happen all the time in Oz. But I guess everytime a gator surprises some old woman in her Florida kitchen - that hits the news as well. :rolleyes:

There is a more recent story about a scrub python that ate a cat too, they took the snake to the vet and the vet ID'd the cat by it's chip/implant.

As much as I give Ms. Clay props for being so understanding about the nature of the snake (after eating her 5 year old cat, I am impressed), I do have to comment on this quote:

Uh... last I checked, snakes don't recognize property lines. ;)
