Breeding Question - Good to Use - Yes/No?
I want to go for bees this winter but I'm not sure if I should use this pastel or not. I like the high yellow bees and I am concerned this guy will not be up to the challenge.
Should I use a different, more yellow pastel or take a chance with this one?
I'd be really bummed out if I didn't get yellow bees.

Are those his colors in real life? He looks pretty brown to me - on my monitor he looks almost axanthic like (which is why I'm wondering if maybe my monitor is "off"). Based on this picture I would question how yellow the bees would be.
Do you have any other pastels that you currently own to choose from, or would you be hunting one down?

I wouldnt use him, have you seen the baby bees that have the grey look to them? If your going to make bees I say use the yellowest Lemon you can find!

Yes. That is pretty accurate.
I have another typical more yellow one I could use that is the same size as this guy.

I can tell you that the Mother of my Bees last year (she was a Pastel, and dad was a Spider) is probably oine of the brownest Pastels you will find, and my Bees were some of the best looking Bees I have seen. I ended up keeping a pair, and they are both still very bright at 500 + grams. I am not saying that you should not try to find the best Pastel and Spider that you can, but I think the Spider may also have alot to do with how the Bees turn out. My original Spider that produced our Bees is a very lite Spider, and reduced pattern. I can only think that he had a good bit to do with the quality of our Bees.

I would listen to the people that have been breeding longer. Their word carries more weight, in my opinion because they may have seen more outcomes.
For instance, I haven't been breeding as long as some, so I may say based on my limited experience that the coloration of the parent is not a guarantee that the hatchlings coloration will follow suit.

He looks like a axanthic to me also :O.Steve i would pass on using him if it was me ;)

I think I told you on KS that I had one that is similar - here he is pictured next to a lemon of the same size - he's clearly not as yellow as the lemon - but comparatively cleaner looking in the brown out department.

If you like a high yellow bumble it might not be the best choice - but then again what good is a high yellow bumble that browns out to ugly :weirdface
Anyway - I bred him to both a hi yellow normal and a high gold spider this season - but I was aiming for a cleaner bumble over a yellow one - we'll see if or how it carries over. I think he'll make smashing pewters tho :D

This guy would be awesome IMO if I had a female black pastel to use.
A clean bee would be great as well but I like the contrast between the white sides and yellow back.
Still have time to decide what to do.
