    Big Gopher Snake
ok so yesterday i adopted a 6 foot albino gopher snake from my herp society. i handled her at the presidents house and she was really cool. So for 24 hours i gave her sometime to chill and i had to take her out to do some stuff with the cage. Well she will NOT let me touch her i got her just barely off the ground and she was hissing SOOOOO LOUD and she thinks she is a rattle snake:D so my question to you is do i take her out and show her whos boss or do i leave her be for a week? thanks -Josh

    Let it settle in.

...and you will NEVER be that snake's 'boss'. The snake might learn to put up with you though ;)

You answered your own question. If you know you should wait a week, why are you only waiting a day?

I don't think snakes relate to time the same way we do, especially if they're sitting in a cage.

Anyway, do what you think is right. That's what I would do.

As I mentioned when you adopted her, gopher's are notorious for hissing up a storm. It's mostly all bluff :)

I'd still let her be for a week. She's NOT hurting for food and that will give her time to get used to another new location. Since we had just gotten her in, she's had a couple of new places this last week.

Just remember that she's going to be around for a long time. No need to hurry this phase of her adjustment.

And, for now, here's some pics for everyone that we took of her when she came in. She's at least 10yrs old and eating F/T large rats

Gophers are one of my favorite colubrids. Along with bullsnakes, they are just darn impressive!
