Since the "het pied markers fact or fiction" thread I've had quite a few of you email or pm me with questions about my comment that there were more to markers than the belly.

I think het pieds are extremely polymorphic and they can range from being completely normal to have belly markers to have an all-over "look" to them.

This discussion also gives me the opportunity to show off a really cool 66% het pied male from 2007! He's from my surprise pied/pastel pied clutch and shows the most extreme examples of all the characteristics of what I call the "look"

The interesting thing is that this boy does not have belly markers....

Nice post Justin... I feel like I have seen many het pieds that have that "harlequin" look... with dorsal keyholes, large blushing areas, and banded pattern... but I have also seen a bunch of "normals" with that look... but I'm sure it's possible that there are things going on with them that would be difficult to prove, especially if they are carring a single recessive trait... then you would only be breeding possible hets if you saved offspring to breed back... much like your pastel pied situation. I really think there are a ton of het animals out there that we don't know about that will never be proven. One of the reasons I like dinker projects so much... you just never know. :)

Nice Possible het Justin, a looker for sure, I have a 66% Het Pied male as well, with all the same characteristics, I plan to just hold onto, grow up and prove out someday, and if he doesnt prove out, then I still have a pretty smokin male normal. :)

I love it when the the yellow spotting on their back melts into the sides and makes those cool spirals. my pastel female has that a lot as do both my het pieds and a few snakes i suspect are het for something! XD
    thanks for the great pics!

thanks for the comments and photos. He's super sweet. He went to a good home outside of the US and it took quite a bit of convincing to get me to part with him!!!
